What to Do if Your Thermomix® Scales Malfunction?

As you know, the Thermomix® is built to serve its owners for decades to come. It’s extremely well-made and durable, so there shouldn’t be any major problems if you use it as intended.

Still, some minor issues might occur on occasion. Temporary scale malfunctions are among the most common.

You definitely don’t want to see your scales to show incorrect readings. This can ruin a perfectly good meal and result in a lot of wasted time and effort.

If you’ve been using your Thermomix® for a while, you know how sensitive the scales are. If you see incorrect readings, there’s no need to panic, as it’s usually not a big deal.

There are a few things that you can do to fix this issue and prevent it from happening in the first place.

  • The first thing you’ll want to do ismake sure that the whole appliance is perfectly level. Even the slightest of slants can cause incorrect readings.

You might not even be able to notice that the machine isn’t level at first.                 That’s how sensitive the scales are. Try moving your Thermomix® gently to           another position, making sure that it’s not tipping it to the side.

  • Make sure that there’s nothing leaning on the device, as it can add uneven weight. Again, it doesn’t have to be anything big, as even small objects can make a difference.
  • Make sure that there are no cables or cords that are subjecting the machine to any kind of pressure, as this can cause incorrect readings.
  • Never drag the Thermomix® across your bench. This can cause some serious damage to the scales. There might not be anything wrong with them at first, but you might expose them to long-term malfunctions.
  • And if you've tried doing these things but your Thermie scale isn't functioning as you've expected, then booking it in for a service with Thermomix® would be our next option.

If you need to move your Thermomix®, using a  slide board is a great idea. It lets you move the machine without causing any dragging on the feet where the scales are homed.

Also make sure the bench under your thermie is clean. My scales went a bit crazy. I discovered a few crumbs on the underside of the front leg. Cleaned it up and no more problems.

I always have to make sure that the cord on the back of my Thermomix is always pulled fully out to enable correct readings on the scales.
My Thermomix lives in my Butlers Pantry, which is on the other side of the wall of my laundry. If my washing machine is on a spin cycle, I can’t use my Thermomix scales. Although I am not aware of any evidence of vibrating, the scales show otherwise and the readings go berserk!
