How to Install Your MoBins Spice Containers - A guide for Every Thermomix® User

There’s nothing like having your herbs and spices organised and easy to find. They make cooking meals just so much easier when your ingredients are easy to find and not jumbled in the back of the cupboard in a basket, like mine used to be. Our MoBin Spice Containers do just that plus they look fantastic in your kitchen too.

Ever since we launched and stocked our best-selling MoBins Spice Containers, we’ve been getting heaps of questions on how to install them. And finally, I’m letting you in a full walkthrough on how I mount them on a plaster wall using screws or by simply placing them in a drawer. There are so many ways you can install your MoBins. And if you don’t have a wall that you can attach to, you can follow these same methods to attach to a board that you can take with you if you are renting.

Mounting MoBins on a Wall

MoBins can be installed directly into plaster, brick, timber or tiles. And each set of MoBins comes with everything you need to mount to a plaster wall, timber wall or even a brick wall.

MoBins are designed to be nested and the easiest way to install MoBins is to start with the bottom-most rack.

Items Needed:

  • Spirit Level
  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • 2mm drill bit to drill pilot hole
  • 9mm drill bit for plaster plug holes
  • Sharp pencil to mark wall for drilling

Instructions:

  1. Remove containers from the MoBin rack.
  2. Determine where the bottom-most MoBin rack will be positioned.
  3. Hold the gray MoBin mounting rack on the wall at the lowest rack position.
  4. Use the spirit level to ensure that the mounting rack is positioned evenly.
  5. Use a sharp pencil or one of the enclosed screws, mark the wall at both holes through the rack.
  6. Set the rack aside.
  7. Using a 2mm drill bit, drill a pilot hole at both markers.
  8. Change to the 9mm drill bit and drill the hole for the plaster plug. Remove loose plaster from the hole entrance.
  9. Screw plaster plug in place.
  10. Position MoBin racks on the wall and attach using provided screws and a Phillips Head Screwdriver.
  11. Place the second mounting rack on the tip of the first rack. Use the spirit level to check alignment on the sides of the rack.
  12. Repeat steps 5-11 until all MoBin mounting racks are attached.
  13. Place your spice containers in the racks. (I like to label them with TM Essentials Spice Labels and place them alphabetically. It makes it so much easier and quicker for me to find the spices.)

Mounting Your MoBins on the Wall Using Velcro Tapes

Renting an apartment means that you can't drill holes on your walls as your landlord might not probably approve of it since it can leave permanent damages on the walls. So if you still wish to mount your MoBins on the wall without having to drill on your walls, here's another solution - Velcro Tapes.

Velcro tapes can be bought from hardware stores or online and you can use 25mm wide of Adhesive Velcro Tapes, and 84cm of tape to mount each MoBin racks on the wall.

If you're ready to mount your MoBins, here's how you do it:

  1. Remove all of the MoBin containers from each rack.

  2. Determine where you want your top MoBin rack to sit on your wall or door. Using either a ruler to measure equal distance from the top or bottom, or a spirit level to mark where the top of the first MoBin rack will attach. This is super important and is only needed to be done once when installing the first rack.

  3. Cut each hook and tape into 42cm strips – 2 for each MoBin rack that needs to be mounted. If you use less tape than this, your MoBins will start to fall away from the wall after a short period of time. Align hook and tape sections together.

  4. Remove the backing tape from one side of the Velcro – it doesn’t matter if it is the hook or loop side.

  5. Apply the tape to the top and bottom backing of each Mobin rack making as much contact with the thin outer edges as possible.

  6. Remove the remaining backing tape, press the Mobin firmly into place. Press along the top and bottom of the rack so that all of the adhesive is attached to the wall or door.

  7. To attach the remaining MoBins, position them below each rack. There is an overlap section that can be used to align the MoBins.

Once your MoBins racks are installed, avoid removing the racks from the Velcro unnecessarily. This installation is designed as a one-off until you are ready to remove your racks entirely.

When you are ready to remove the MoBins racks, remove the containers and pull the rack gently away from the wall. Gently pull the Velcro tape away from the wall or door. Any remaining adhesive can be removed with acetone (nail polish remover).

*Note: Adhesive Velcro tape has been the most effective tape I have found to mount MoBins. I have tried double-sided foam tape but it is difficult to remove from the wall and the adhesive on the tape tends to fail after a short period of time.

Having your MoBins in a Drawer?

If you’re renting and will be unable to mount your MoBins on a wall, you can always have them sit in a drawer, nice and easy, just like what I did with mine. No drilling and no screw holes. Just your herbs and spices all safe and organised in a drawer.

So there you have it. There are a variety of easy ways to mount and install your MoBins that anyone can do - just have to choose what works best for you.
