A Guide to Travelling With Your Thermomix®

A Guide to Travelling With Your Thermomix®

If you plan to travel with your Thermomix® to take it with you on your vacation or move it between houses, here are a few tips to add support and give extra care for your machine.

The advantage of taking with you your Thermomix® on your travel is that it is a space saver. You don’t need to pack lots of pans, pots, and utensils. You can just pack the recipe chips and leave the cookbooks at home. You can pack less food as you only need the basics and your Thermie will do the rest.

You can avoid dining out or take-aways which is healthier and will save you money. You and your family can eat like kings with healthy, quick and delicious food at the table. You can focus on sightseeing or travelling and still prepare a hot meal effortlessly at the end of the day. Thermomix® is your best travel buddy!

General Travel Guide on the Road

Set your Thermomix in Transportation Mode

If you’re planning to take your Thermomix® TM5 or TM6 with you on your next trip, make sure that your Thermomix is set into Transportation Mode first to ensure that your TM Bowl is secured in place.

Simply go to the Menu of your appliance and search for the “Transportation Mode” and wait for the arms of your Thermie to lock the TM Bowl. Once the bowl is locked in place, hold the dial down and shutdown.

The Transportation Mode can only be found in TM5 and TM6. But if you have a TM31 model, you just simply need to lock the bowl - and that’s it!

NOTE: Don’t forget to remove the blades of your Thermomix® and pack it neatly in your check-in luggage.

Don’t use a regular bag

Using a regular bag with a soft base can expose your Thermie scales to damage. This can lead to inaccurate measurements and even possible damage that may result in booking an appointment with a technician.

Our bag prevents this from happening. Your Thermomix® will have all the protection it needs to work properly no matter where you go. And to ensure you that your Thermie will perfectly fit in our 2-piece Travel Bags, here are their dimensions:

  • Dimensions: Main Bag - Weight 1.45kg, Height 37cm, Width 32cm, Depth 32cm
  • Dimensions: Small Bag - Weight 0.45kg, Height 39cm, Width 34cm, Depth 15cm

Our Travel Bag comes as 2 bags that can be joined as one or used separately. The main large bag fits your Thermomix® and the second smaller bag is designed to hold your Varoma®, ThermoBowl or even cookbooks.

And if you’re wondering about the size of your Thermomix®, here are the dimensions of your appliance:

Insure your Thermomix®

There are insurance companies that insure your machine but for quite an expensive price. Make sure you check the coverage as some companies will not cover damages outside your home.

Easy Recipes

Stock up on common ingredients. Prepare simple recipes like dips,  salads, and yoghurt before your trip for quick meals and snacks.

Travelling by Plane

We do recommend checking your airline before flying with your Thermomix® as some airlines don’t guarantee the safety of your machine or won’t allow you to carry it with you particularly if you are travelling on smaller aircraft.

If you have a TM31, you can place it on your travel bag and put it on the overhead locker. Remember to remove the blades and put them in your luggage. Additionally, remove the Varoma and put it as well in your suitcase or else it will be too large to fit. It will weigh nearly 7kg.

For TM5 and TM6, you should check with your airline as the weight may reach over 10kgs with the travel bag.

Check the Airline

Some airlines will not allow you to carry your Thermieas hand luggage as it would not fit in the overhead locker. If they do let it on board, it would have to sit at the back of the plane on a shelf with nothing to stop it falling off should there be some turbulence. However, there are airlines with large overhead lockers which can accommodate your machine.

Pack Separately

Pack your Varoma and blades separately to make sure that it will fit in the overhead locker and ensure the safety of your Thermie. You can’t carry the blades as a hand carry, so pack it in your normal checked-in luggage.

Although not recommended but in case you are forced to ship or check-in your Thermie as baggage, here are some tips:

  • Repack your Thermie as it was delivered using all packing TM materials, one box inside another box.
  • Shove in hand towels, extra bubble wrap to ensure it wouldn't move.
  • Put your cookbook chips in your handbag (wrapped separately in a towel or tissue).
  • On the original box, wrap a "Fragile" and “This Way Up” tape.

You should know that even the fragile handling stickers the box can be tossed and handled roughly by their staff. It would be safe in a good quality bubble wrap but it is still worrisome. We would not suggest you go through that stress.

Overall, travelling with your Thermomix® is worth it. You can save hundreds of dollars by taking your Thermomix® so you can prepare meals that are beyond amazing!
