General Travel Guide on the Road

Set your Thermomix® Appliance in Transportation Mode

If you’re planning to take your Thermomix® TM5® or TM6®  Appliances with you on your next trip, make sure that your Thermomix® Appliance is set into Transportation Mode first to ensure that your Mixing Bowl is secured in place.

Simply go to the Menu of your appliance and search for the “Transportation Mode” and wait for the arms of your machine to lock the Mixing Bowl. Once the bowl is locked in place, hold the dial down and shutdown.

The Transportation Mode can only be found in Thermomix® TM5® and TM6® Appliances. But if you have a Thermomix® TM31® Appliance model, you just simply need to lock the bowl - and that’s it!

NOTE: Don’t forget to remove the blades of your Thermomix® Appliance and pack it neatly in your check-in luggage.

Don’t use a regular bag

Using a regular bag with a soft base can expose your scales to damage. This can lead to inaccurate measurements and even possible damage that may result in booking an appointment with a technician.

Our bag prevents this from happening. Your Thermomix® Appliance will have all the protection it needs to work properly no matter where you go. And to ensure you that your machine will perfectly fit in our 2-piece Travel Bags, here are their dimensions:

  • Dimensions: Main Bag - Weight 1.45kg, Height 37cm, Width 32cm, Depth 32cm
  • Dimensions: Small Bag - Weight 0.45kg, Height 39cm, Width 34cm, Depth 15cm

Our Travel Bag comes as 2 bags that can be joined as one or used separately. The main large bag fits your Thermomix® Appliance and the second smaller bag is designed to hold your Varoma® Appliance, ThermoBowlor even cookbooks.

And if you’re wondering about the size of your Thermomix® Appliance, here are the dimensions of your appliance:

Insure your Thermomix® Appliance

There are insurance companies that insure your machine but for quite an expensive price. Make sure you check the coverage as some companies will not cover damages outside your home.

Easy Recipes

Stock up on common ingredients. Prepare simple recipes like dips,  salads, and yoghurt before your trip for quick meals and snacks.

Travelling by Plane

We do recommend checking your airline before flying with your Thermomix® Appliance as some airlines don’t guarantee the safety of your machine or won’t allow you to carry it with you particularly if you are travelling on smaller aircraft.

If you have a Thermomix® TM31® Appliance, you can place it on your travel bag and put it on the overhead locker. Remember to remove the blades and put them in your luggage. Additionally, remove the Varoma® Appliance and put it as well in your suitcase or else it will be too large to fit. It will weigh nearly 7kg.

For Thermomix® TM5® and TM6® Appliances, you should check with your airline as the weight may reach over 10kgs with the travel bag.

Check the Airline

Some airlines will not allow you to carry your machine as hand luggage as it would not fit in the overhead locker. If they do let it on board, it would have to sit at the back of the plane on a shelf with nothing to stop it falling off should there be some turbulence. However, there are airlines with large overhead lockers which can accommodate your machine.

Pack Separately

Pack your Varoma® Appliance and blades separately to make sure that it will fit in the overhead locker and ensure the safety of your machine. You can’t carry the blades as a hand carry, so pack it in your normal checked-in luggage.

Although not recommended but in case you are forced to ship or check-in your machine as baggage, here are some tips:

  • Repack your machine as it was delivered using all packing materials, one box inside another box.
  • Shove in hand towels, extra bubble wrap to ensure it wouldn't move.
  • Put your cookbook chips in your handbag (wrapped separately in a towel or tissue).
  • On the original box, wrap a "Fragile" and “This Way Up” tape.

You should know that even the fragile handling stickers the box can be tossed and handled roughly by their staff. It would be safe in a good quality bubble wrap but it is still worrisome. We would not suggest you go through that stress.

Overall, travelling with your Thermomix® Appliance is worth it. You can save hundreds of dollars by taking your Thermomix® Appliance so you can prepare meals that are beyond amazing!
