5 Hacks to Keep Your Butter Taste Fresh

Butter makes our meals taste delicious, creamy and wonderful. It’s essential when making pastries and adds a delicious creamy flavour to sautéed dishes.

Today, we’ll be sharing some hacks to enhance the shelf life and buttery goodness of your butter. And here are some of them:

  1. When making fresh butter with your Thermomix® Appliance, rinse it multiple times to remove as much buttermilk as you can. Rinsing is best done with icy cold water to keep your fresh butter cold and keep the butter fats together. If you don't plan on using your fresh butter within a couple of weeks, it's recommended that you freeze butter. Our handy Freezer Pods are ideal to freeze fresh butter.
  2. Toast and sandwiches are best paired with fresh, tasty butter. But be careful not to put crumbs or spreads on other parts of your butter as this will shorten it's shelf life.
  3. To sauté vegetables or meat with butter, heat your pan first before adding your butter. Coat your pan with butter then add your ingredients.
  4. Butter has a low burn point. To cook with butter at higher heats, add some vegetable oil to the pan along with your butter. Alternatively, use ghee to fry at high temperatures for that full buttery flavour. you can get the recipe for ghee here
  5. To defrost frozen butter quickly, pour hot water into a ceramic or glass cup or bowl (something that can fit over your butter). After a few minutes, dump the water out of the vessel and quickly cover your butter. The heat from the cup will soften your butter in just a few minutes.

And to keep your butter fresh and easy to spread when you need it, store it in a Ceramic Butter Crock all year round on your kitchen benchtop. Just remember to change the water in the crock every 3 or 4 days.

Really love my butter crock. It holds just the right amount of butter for my family. By using the crock, my butter keeps better but I make sure I change the water every other day. Easily lasts a week, week and half on the bench – Autumn/Winter now in Aus. I freeze left-over butter. Grated frozen butter is great in pastry or scones.
