Steamed Chicken Moneybags

It's easy to satisfy your cravings for an Asian dinner especially with your Thermomix® Appliance. Nothing complicated, just easy and tasty. The Varoma® Appliance is your go to for steaming healthy dinners and these Steamed Chicken Moneybags will be loved by all. So easy and can be made ahead of time and either frozen or kept in the fridge and then steamed when ready.

Ingredients:

  • 300g chicken thighs
  • 80g Water chestnuts
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1tbsp soy sauce
  • 1tbsp Chinese cooking wine
  • 1cm fresh ginger
  • 24 square wonton wrappers

Dipping sauce:

  • 1/3 cup soy sauce (extra)
  • 2tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 2tsp sesame oil

Directions:

  1. Place chicken in Mixing Bowl and mince for 30 sec/Speed 4
  2. Set aside and rinse bowl
  3. Put water chestnuts, garlic and ginger in Mixing Bowl and chop for 5 sec/Speed 5
  4. Place chicken in with garlic, ginger & chestnuts and add wine.                 Mix 10 sec/ Reverse Speed 1
  5. Place a wonton wrapper in the palm of one hand and place one rounded tsp of chicken filling in the centre of the wrapper. Cup your hand gently gathering edges of the wrapper together with other hand to form moneybag shape. Twist top to enclose filling.
  6. Fill Mixing Bowl with 900g water 5 min/100°C/Speed 3 (to heat up and begin the steaming)
  7. Line the Varoma® Appliance tray with a TM Essentials Steaming Sheet and place money bags on Varoma® Appliance tray (I did 13 at a time).  Steam for 15 min/100°C/Speed 3 until chicken is cooked.
  8. Meanwhile, combine dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl
  9. If you have Chinese spoons, top with a teaspoon of sauce and place money bag on top otherwise place money bags on platter and spoon teaspoon over the top of each one.

I’ve made these so many times and they are delicious! I always double batch and freeze some uncooked which I use in Chinese wonton soup at a later date.
