Pretzel Dogs

Soft pretzel dough is rolled around hot dogs, sprinkled with salt and baked until golden brown. A hot dog baked right inside a soft pretzel makes these the tastiest and easiest homemade pretzel dogs with your Thermomix® Appliance you will ever eat! The kids will absolutley love these for school lunches or as a snack after school or sports.

 Ingredients:

Pretzel Dogs

  • 8 hot dogs

Pretzel dough

  • 360g warm water
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 600g plain flour
  • 60g butter

Baking Soda Bath

  • 2 litres water
  • 100g bicarbonate of soda

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp milk

Directions

  1. Place all pretzel dough ingredients in Mixing Bowl and mix for 15 sec/Speed 3.
  2. Knead the dough for 4 min/Dough function.
  3. Tip the dough onto a lightly floured Silicone Baking Mat.
  4. Wrap and rest in a warm place, or oven set to Defrost Setting at 30°C for 45 minutes.
  5. Once the dough has doubled in size, prepare the Baking Soda Bath.
  6. Bring the water to a boil in a large pot over high heat and carefully add the baking soda. It will bubble up, so add it slowly.
  7. While the water is heating, divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.
  8. Roll into 50cm ropes and wrap around the hot dogs.
  9. Pinch the ends onto themselves to prevent them unwrapping.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  11. Place each pretzel dog into the Baking Soda Bath and boil for about 30 seconds.
  12. Using a large slotted spoon remove them from the water and place onto a Silicone Baking Mat.
  13. Brush with beaten egg yolk and milk mixture and sprinkle with salt.
  14. Place in oven and bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
